On Tuesday, 28 July 2020, the Office of Her Excellency, Barr. Mrs. Chioma Uzodinma, First Lady Imo State, through the Ministry of Gender and Vulnerable Group put smiles on the faces of widows in Okigwe zone of Imo State, as they took turns in receiving palliatives given to them from her excellency.
The giving out of palliatives to 610 widows across the state was in fulfilment of the governor’s wife’s promise to give out palliatives to 610 widows in the state, a promise she made during the 2020 International Widows Day Celebration on June 23. The palliative was also meant to further help cushion the negative economic effect of the Coronavirus pandemic on the widows.
The palliatives for widows in Okigwe zone was distributed, on behalf of the First Lady, by the Commissioner for Gender and Vulnerable Group, Hon. Lady Nkechinyere Ugwu, and Commissioner for Housing and Urban development, Hon. Lady love Ineh.
Speaking during the distribution at the Ehime Mbano Council Headquarters, Lady Ugwu assured the widows that the present government, led by Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma and his ever supportive wife has their interest at heart and will do everything within its powers to give them a sense of belonging.
Making a remark, the Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Lady Love Ineh promised that the government will always remember them in the scheme of things and made it clear that the fact that their husbands were late was not the end of life. She urged them to remain steadfast in God so as to be able to train their children.
Some of the women leaders of Okigwe zone who spoke during the distribution, poured encomiums on the wife of the governor for her kind gesture and prayed God to continue to prosper and protect the first family, the Commissioner for Gender/ Vulnerable Group and entire leadership of the state.
In their reaction, some of the recipients (widows) who spoke to newsmen expressed overwhelming joy at being remembered by the wife of the governor and the Ministry of Gender/Vulnerable Group and also showered prayers on the first family as well as all who made the largesse possible.
The Commissioner was accompanied on the visit by some principal officers of the ministry and members of the Noble Ladies for Hope who were on hand to show solidarity for the wife of the governor, as well as the Commissioner for Gender/ Vulnerable Group, Lady Nkechinyere Ugwu and that of Housing and Urban Development, Lady Love Ineh who are their members.
Orlu zone palliative is scheduled to be shared on Friday, July 31, 2020.
