It was all joyful moments again as widows from Orlu Zone on Friday 31st July, 2020, took their turn as they receive their share of palliatives from The Office of Her Excellency, Barr. Mrs Chioma Uzodinma, First Lady Imo State, through The Ministry of Gender And Vulnerable Group.
The giving out of palliatives to 610 widows across the state was in fulfilment of the governor’s wife’s promise to give out palliatives to 610 widows in the state, a promise she made during the 2020 International Widows Day Celebration on June 23. The palliative was also meant to further help cushion the negative economic effect of the Coronavirus pandemic on the widows.
The palliatives for widows in Orlu zone was distributed, on behalf of the First Lady, by the Commissioner for Gender and Vulnerable Group, Hon. Lady Nkechinyere Ugwu, and Commissioner for Housing and Urban development, Hon. Dr. Love Ineh, the Member representing Njaba in the Imo state House of Assembly Hon Uju Onwudiwe, the TC Chairman Orlu LGA, Ezinne Ifeoma Ndiukwu, and a role call of other female government appointees of the present administration.
Speaking during the distribution at the Orlu Council Headquarters, Lady Ugwu assured the widows that the present prosperity government of Imo State led by Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma and his supportive wife, our first lady, will always have their interest at heart.
Contributing, Hon.Uju Onwudiwe commended the wife of the governor for her magnanimity towards the the indigent widows, vulnerable and the downtrodden. She described the present administration as a gender friendly government.
In her remark , the Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Lady Love Ineh promised that the government will always remember them in the scheme of things and urged them to always put the first family of Imo state in their prayers.
The TC Chairman, Ezinne Ifeoma Ndiukwu, poured encomiums on the wife of the governor for her kind gesture and prayed God to continue to prosper and protect the first family, and the entire leadership of the state.
In their reaction, some of the recipients (widows) who spoke to newsmen expressed overwhelming joy at being remembered by the wife of the governor and the Ministry of Gender/Vulnerable Group and also showered prayers on the first family as well as all who made the largesse possible.
The Commissioner was accompanied on the visit by some principal officers of the ministry and members of the Noble Ladies for Hope who were on hand to show solidarity for the wife of the governor, as well as the Commissioner for Gender/ Vulnerable Group, Lady Nkechinyere Ugwu and that of Housing and Urban Development, Lady Love Ineh who are their members.
The palliatives were so much that Her Excellency Barrister Chioma Uzodinma extended her humanitarian and philanthropic gestures also to all the widows in Ministry of Gender and Vulnerable group, the first of its kind. Many of those who showed up, but were not on the list, were also blessed.
