Activities marking this year’s Nigerian Army Day Celebration in the State kicked-off yesterday with Juma’ at Prayer at 34 Artillery Brigade Central Mosque Obinze Barracks.
The celebration which comes up on July 6 every year is observed in memory of the fallen heroes of the Nigerian Civil War and other campaigns.
The aim of the celebration is to sensitize Nigerians that wars are not the best options for resolving conflicts and to promote unity in the Country.
A release issued by the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Ibrahim Bawa-Rajua on behalf of the Commander 34 Artillery Brigade, Obinze Brigadier General Hamza Bature said that other activities lined up for the celebration include an Inter-denominational church service that will be held tomorrow July 1 at the St. Jude’s Catholic Church, Obinze barracks by ten in the morning as well as a medical outreach programme of the Nigerian Army scheduled to hold on Wednesday at Mgbirichi between eight in the morning and five in the evening.
The release further discloses that the ceremony will also feature environmental sanitation by the Nigerian Army on Thursday from Avu junction to Garki on Port-Harcourt Road as well as New Owerri from eight in the morning to five in the evening.
