The State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha has affirmed that the reward for good work done by any Civil or Public Servant in the State determines the next assignment that will be given to the person.
Governor Okorocha stated this in his message to the National Productivity Merit Award Organized by the State Ministry of Labour and Productivity at the Imo International Convention Centre, Owerri.
Represented by the Secretary to the Government of Imo State, SGI, Sir George Eche, Governor Okorocha described productivity as the nucleus of public service and applauded the State Civil and Public Servants selected for the award for their hard work, dedication and support to the Rescue Mission Administration stressing the need for them to redouble their efforts in service.
The Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige who was represented on the occasion by a Director in his Ministry, Mrs. Odaga thanked the State Government for organizing such an event for Imo workers which shows the love the government has for them.
In his opening remarks, the Chairman of the occasion and Commissioner for Information, Prof. Nnamdi Obiaraeri, thanked the State Governor for giving Imo Civil Servants such opportunity, and applauded the awardees for their untiring efforts in ensuring that assignments given to them were carried out actively.
The Commissioner for Labour and Poverty Alleviation, Mr. Blessing Nwamerenini said that the essence of the productivity day was to institutionalize productivity consciousness and excellence among workers and organizations in both the public and private sectors as well as the need to reward hard-work, efficiency, discipline and patriotism among workers and thanked the Civil Servants for turning out en-masse to grace the occasion.
In his speech, the Head Of Service of the State, Mr. Callistus Ekenze, thanked the Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha for his love for the Imo workforce and appreciated those selected for the award, stating that they were carefully selected for their hard work, dedication, and commitment to duty.
He told Imo workers that productivity is the determinant of rapid economic growth and charged them to develop a productivity mindset.
In a lecture, the National Chairman, Industrial Division of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Prof. G.O. Osueke maintained that economic growth can only be sustainable if it is traceable to productivity.
Highpoints of the occasion were the handing over of the award certificate, plagues to the Awardees and a cash of N50,000 to each of them.
