The Federal Government has been called upon to intensify the fight against human trafficking and other related cases associated with it.
The Commissioner for Happiness and Purpose Fulfillment, Mrs. Ogechi Ololo made the call at the Government House, Owerri when she, on behalf of the State Government received another batch of Libyan returnees who are indigenes of the State.
Mrs. Ololo said human trafficking has a direct effect on the physical and mental well-being of victims, adding that most victims who have history of abuse are already living in precarious circumstances because of the shame and stigma from enslavement
She promised to empower the returnees and offer them training in skills as part of the efforts to reintegrate them into society.
The Commissioner enjoined parents and guardians to resist the temptation of sending their children to Libya as the environment is not conducive for now.
Government House Correspondent, Vitalis Ihezie reports that most of the deportees lamented that their sponsors promised to take them to Europe only to abandon them in Libya where they experienced all forms of humiliation
They said that they are being sold to different masters in other to clear their debts and urged Nigerians planning to embark on the same journey to have a re-think.
