Nigeria female Wrestlers dominated the Senior Women’s Wrestling category, winning nine gold and one silver in the final day of the 2018 African Wrestling Championship which ended in Port Harcourt Rivers state on Sunday.
Blessing Oborududu secured her eight titles on the continent after defeating Sambou Anta by fourteen points to three in the sixty-eight kilogramme class while World wrestling silver medalist, Odunayo Adekuronye claimed her 4TH titles after defeating Essombe Emiloenne of Cameroun in the fifty seven kilogram class by technical superiority.
Commonwealth gold medalist, Aminat Ademiyi also won her fourth title by defeating Tunisia’s Lilia Mejri ten-zero in the sixty two Kg category just as another commonwealth gold medalist, Ifeoma Nwoye reclaimed her African title by defeating Tunisia’s Faten Aammami in the 55Kg class.
The high point of the event was the eleven seconds defeat two-time African champion, Winnie Gofit handed down to Kenya’s Nthiga in the seventy-two Kg to retain her title.
The country’s freestyle wrestlers Amas Daniel, Melvin Bobo and John Ogbonna also won gold medals to retain their African titles at the championship.
Amas, who captained the country’s men Team, won his African title for the sixth time after overpowering Tunisia’s opponent seven-two in the final of the senior’s free style 65kg.
